DESCRIPTION ALCO MERIC White
Elastomeric Roof Coating is formulated using a 100% Acrylic Polymer base
that provides outstanding adhesion and superior reflectivity. It is
formulated to resist cracking and peeling from severe heat and cold.
USE : Excellent for coating metal, aged galvanized
repainted metal, urethane foam, concrete and other approved roof surfaces
ADVANTAGES
» Brilliant white color contributes significantly to reducing
interior temperatures by reflecting the sun's rays resulting in energy
savings » Forms rubber-like seal that moves and stretches
with normal expansion and contraction of roof surface
PREPARATION Surface to be coated must be free of oil, dirt
and debris. All loosely adhered material must be cut or scraped away.
Surface must be power washed then thoroughly rinsed, enabling good
adhesion to substrate. On metal roofs, all fasteners must be checked for
tightness. Badly rusted panels should be replaced. Slightly rusted areas
should be wire brushed and primed with ALCO Red Zinc Chromate Primer. New
metal roofs must be allowed to weather for a minimum of 6 months or acid
etched if time is essential. On concrete surfaces, be sure all cracks and
voids are repaired with a quality patching cement before coating.
APPLICATION For best results, apply with a soft brush,
roller or airless sprayer. Avoid excessive brushing. Apply at temperatures
above 50° F. One coat will normally cover any previous coating but two
coats are recommended,. This product has excellent suspension and requires
minimum stirring. If roof is hot, spray with water to prevent the coating
from drying too quickly. This material may be applied over damp, not wet,
surfaces. To obtain the additional strength of a "single-ply"
roof, apply a first coat and while coating is still wet or tacky, cover
with ALCO Poly-S Polyester Mat. Let dry, then apply second coat.
Apply only when coating will not be subjected to heavy dew or rain before
the coating has dried (approximately 5 hours).
CAUTION: If the coating is rained on or becomes wet before it is
thoroughly dry, there is a possibility that the material may dilute and
run off the roof onto other surfaces. Should this happen, clean the
stained surfaces as soon as possible with soap and water.
NOTE: Material may be used over aged (over 1 year) BUR and some modified
roof systems when ALCO Asphalt and Modified Bitumen Primer is used over
existing surface. For Polyurethane Foam, EPDM and aged CSPE-Hypalon™
Systems, see ALCO Reflective and Energy Saving Coatings manual.
